Homeopathy and Hay fever

Hay fever season is upon us, and rather than be able to welcome the change in weather, sufferers can dread it, as this debilitating chronic condition can mar all enjoyment of spring.
Hay fever season also coincides with exam pressures at school, when teenagers need to have a clear head and be able to focus. Sufferers can be battling with a blocked or streaming nose, or eyes that refuse to focus because they are stinging ,burning or watering profusely, and a head that feels like it’s stuffed with cotton wool.
The problems can be further complicated by children relying on antihistamine medication in order to manage symptoms. While these can be useful as a temporary stop gap, they unfortunately don’t do anything to discourage the same problems from making a return appearance later on. Although this strategy can have a useful short-term part to play, it does little to make parent or child feel they are able to take a more pro-active stance in boosting their overall system to reach a more balanced state of health.
This is where homeopathy can step positively into the picture, by relieving immediate acute symptoms over the spring and summer months. In addition, more long term deeper acting homeopathic treatment over the autumn and winter months, can help strengthen and balance the system of the patient.
When this is successful, each hay fever season should cause less distress until the symptoms have largely disappeared. This kind of deep acting treatment needs to be administered by an experienced homeopath, who will look at the patients immediate symptoms, as well as their past and present overall physical, emotional and psychological health, to prescribe an individual remedy, to give long-term relief.
Some signs and symptoms of hay fever are :
- Red, bloodshot eyes that can feel very watery and/or gritty
- Itching of the eyes and eyelids that can make it almost impossible to avoid
having a good rub.
-
Puffiness and swelling of the surrounding area of the eyes after rubbing.
-
A dry itchy sensation in the throat, palate and/or ears.
-
Variable mucus discharges from the nose that can be either profuse and
watery, or stuffed up and congested.
-
Wheezing and coughing.
-
Itchy, sensitive skin.
