What is reflexology?
The ancient healing art of reflexology has been known to man for many thousands of years. It was first practiced by the early Indian, Chinese and Egyptian peoples.
Reflexology deals with the principle that there are points on the feet and hands that correspond to all of the glands, organs and parts of the body. Reflexology is a unique method of using the thumb and fingers on these reflex areas to promote the unblocking of nerve impulses in the body. This aids relaxation and harmony in mind and body.
How can reflexology help you?
Following illness, stress, injury or any disease the body is in a state of 'imbalance'. This is occasionally felt by having constantly cold feet or still lacking in energy many weeks or even months later. Reflexology can be used to restore and maintain the body's natural balance and improve a sense of wellbeing.
A qualified reflexologist can detect tiny congestions and imbalances in the feet and by working on these points the reflexologist can release any blockages and restore the flow of energy to the whole body.
What happens when you go for treatment?
On your first visit the therapist will ask you various questions about your health, diet and any health problems that you may have.
The reflexologist then works on your feet, noting problem areas. There may be some discomfort in some areas, but for the most part the sensation is pleasant and soothing. The session lasts about an hour depending on your body's needs. After the first treatment you may react in a definite way: You may feel relaxed or lethargic, nauseous or tearful but this is all vital information for reflexologists, as it shows how your body is responding to treatment.
