Reiki [pronounced ray-kee] is a Japanese term that describes the universal life energy that flows through us all and is all around us. Universal energy is recognised by traditional forms of medicine in the East ,called ‘chi’ in China, ’prana’ in India and ‘Ki’ in Japan.
It is the name given to a system of natural healing which evolved in Japan from the experiences and dedication of Dr Mikao Usui who died in 1926. Dr Usui spent his life studying and researching ancient teachings and meditating on their wisdom from which he developed this healing system which he then practised and taught to others. Reiki is still passed from master to student today. Anyone can learn or receive Reiki all you need is the desire to heal.
A Treatment involves lying on a couch or sitting if that is more comfortable for you, fully clothed. The practitioner gently places their hands non-intrusively in a sequence of positions which cover the whole body. Treatments usually last for 1hr – 1.5hrs.
Healing occurs physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually. The practitioner is a channel which the universal energy is drawn through by a need or imbalance in the recipient. Reiki goes to where it is needed and supports the person to heal, restoring balance so that the person can regain harmony and wholeness.
Reiki is used in private practice, therapy centres ,GP surgeries, hospitals ,hospices, cancer support groups, post operate recovery, drug rehabilitation, prisons and HIV and AIDS centres.
